British actor Clive Owen (Sin City) and 22-year-old actress Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) currently appear in a teaser trailer for a new short film from BMW Films.
Titled The Escape, the film was written and directed by writer, director and visual effects master Neil Blomkamp (Disctrict 9, Chappie) alongside short film and television screenwriter David Carter.
Back in 2001, the BMW car franchise released eight short films under the title The Hire with Owen starring as the driver of a BMW-branded vehicle in which he served as a transporter of unclassified materials. A number of well-known directors were responsible for the web-based success of The Hire, such as Ang Lee, Tony Scott, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Guy Ritchie, but now Blomkamp is putting his name on the new upcoming film.
The Escape also stars actress Vera Farmiga and The Punisher star John Bernthal and will be premiered on October 23, 2016 at BMWFilms.com.
“I just think it was a brilliant idea originally,” said Owen in an exclusive behind-the-scenes promotional spot via BMW USA. “They’re serious pieces of work. They’re short films, but they’re serious filmmakers doing what they do best.”
