The 50 Most Played Christmas Songs In The UK

With the holiday season in full swing, everywhere we go we hear Christmas song after Christmas song. Some we love and some we hate, but have you ever wondered which Christmas songs were played the most in the UK?50 sq

PPL, the UK based organisation responsible for licensing recorded music played in public as in, TV, radio, online, nightclubs, stores, etc. has revealed what the nation tuned into this time last year, and have put together the PPL 50 Most Played Christmas Tracks chart.

PPL collected the data from the 1st-31st of December 2014, and the chart has now become one that is highly anticipated within the music industry.

One thing that holds true year after year, is that the chart is very difficult to enter for newer artists. Why? The UK has incredible loyalty to Christmas classics like “Merry Xmas Everybody” by Slade, and Wizzard’s “Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday”.

One noticeable new entry is singer Sam Smith. He came in at number 40, and all girl-band The Saturdays sneaked in at number 50.

The new rendition of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid 30 takes the top slot, and in doing so, they relegate the firm former favorite “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues to second place.

Check out the full top 50 list below:
