Metal band System of a Down have announced a number of dates for an upcoming European tour in the summer of 2017. The news has many fans speculating whether the band will play some of the big UK summer festivals, such as Download and Leeds & Reading.
System of a Down are one of the most unique metal bands since the turn of the millennium. Their 1998 debut self titled album gave the band an almost immediate cult status, and their critically acclaimed second album ‘Toxicity’ turned them into a worldwide phenomenon. ‘Toxicity’ fused elements of folk, progressive metal, middle eastern music and jazz into the band’s already focussed heavy rock sound, and caused a huge stir in the US pop charts. The album hit the top spot in both the US and Canada and has since gone on to to be certified 3X platinum.
The band continued to match the success of their previous records, with their brilliant 2005 double album ‘Mezmerize/Hypnotize’, before taking an extended hiatus in 2006. System have since reformed and despite having not released a single in over a decade, are still sounding fantastic live. They are also alleged to be recording brand new material, after three of the band members posted a number of pictures from within the recording studio on their social media accounts.
Bassist Shavo Odadjian stated: “We’ve written some songs. We’re keeping it to ourselves. We’re getting back to the bullshit of being together.”
The band embark on their European tour at the beginning of June next year.
