Sunflower Bean Release It’s Debut Album ‘Human Ceremony.’

-

Trendy Brooklyn trio Sunflower Bean is rising from the gardens of artistic victory with the upcoming February 5th worldwide release of debut album Human Ceremony.

The 11-track debut is an entrée of soft psychedelic anthems with a sound comparable to

the steady drone of trip hop group Portishead, and the calming hum of the hits that brought Velvet Underground to rock fame in the 60s.

Vocalist/guitarist Nick Kivlen, vocalist/bassist Julia Cummings, and drummer Jacob Faber together formed the band in 2013. Quickly following the birth of their musical trinity was the 2015 release of their EP, Show Me Your Seven Secrets. Having opened for alternative rock groups such as Wolf Alice, DIIV, and Best Coast, Sunflower Bean has found it’s niche among the more established names of it’s associating indie genres, showing that the band’s presence in the music world is here and now, and ready to grow.

Landing a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of 45 most anticipated albums of 2016, the biweekly pop culture magazine classifies Sunflower Bean’s sound as psych rock, calling it “a sharp, dreamy debut.”

“Everything comes from a conflicting interest,” says Kivlen. “We love dream pop, but we also really love rock ‘n’ roll. It’s those two spectrums.”

Recorded in just 7 days, Human Ceremony is a term the band uses “to describe all of the different actions we put meaning into as a species,” says Cummings via the band’s official Facebook page. “I like to think of it as the caption to a picture in an alien text book from the future.”

The record is currently available for streaming at RollingStone.com, as well as through Apple Music in the UK, Ireland, and France.
