In fantastic news, Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park is bringing one of the greatest pop soul albums ever recorded live to the city of London.
This July 10th, the one and only Stevie Wonder will perform possibly his finest work to date, Songs In The Key of Life, front to back in its entirety.
The Songs In The Key of Life Tour, which has had rave reviews in the US, has now run for 18 months, and will be heading to the UK for the very first time. Plus, with 2016 being the album’s 40th Anniversary year, it’s a double cause for celebration.
Released on Motown Records in 1976, the album is packed with hits including: “Sir Duke”, “Isn’t She Lovely” and “I Wish”. The album is also cited as a huge influence on his contemporaries with Elton John, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Pharrell all saying how important the album was to them.
Songs In The Key of Life followed a trilogy of albums that took Wonder from a teenage Motown star to an artist that changed pop and soul music forever. Talking Book, Innervisions and Fullfillingness’ First Finale were all released at the beginning of the 1970s. In 1974, Wonder headed to the studio and spent 2 more years on Songs producing a double album that cemented Wonder as a true musical genius.
Those albums released in the ‘70s made the 25-time GRAMMY winner the only artist ever to have received Album Of The Year awards in three out of four consecutive years.
Songs In The Key of Life won a Grammy for Album Of The Year in 1977 and to this day is still hailed as a true work of art.
Now in its fourth year, Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park has established itself as an essential London summer event.
