Merle Haggard is a legend in the world of country. To celebrate this, an all-star lineup of country music’s elite is coming together for a special concert for the superstar called the Sing Me Back Home: The Music Of Merle Haggard tribute concert.
Blackbird Presents, the organizers of the concert, have released final details about the gig. The concert will take place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on April 6th. The date is somewhat significant as it coincides with both the anniversary of Haggard’s death and what would have also been Merle’s 80th birthday.
When we say a lineup of country music’s elite, we mean it. The list of musicians participating is very impressive indeed and includes Haggard’s friend and collaborator Willie Nelson. Add to that, The Avett Brothers, Warren Haynes, Loretta Lynn, Alison Krauss, Jamey Johnson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lucinda Williams, Merle’s son Ben Haggard, and more. This will be one night for country and music fans not to be missed.
Theresa Haggard, Merle’s widow, along with Keith Wortman and Mark Rothbaum will oversee the concert as executive producers. Wortman brings his experience to these types of concerts having previously produced events honoring other music heavyweights like Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Gregg Allman, and Levon Helm.
Don Was, Ben Haggard, and Buddy Cannon will play with the house band as well serve as the music directors for the show.
Theresa Haggard said in a statement, “I am so very thankful for this tribute to my husband, Merle Haggard.” Adding, “Please come join me and my family at this fantastic show that Merle would be so proud of.”
