It’s hard to believe that it’s been 35 years since the groundbreaking cult classic This Is Spinal Tap was unleashed on the world.
The stars of the original classic rock mockumentary Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, and Christopher Guest treated the audience at New York’s Beacon Theatre to a hilarious acoustic performance of Spinal Tap material, all be it without wigs and spandex.
All the classic Spinal Tap songs were covered: “Hell Hole,” “Big Botton,” “Rainy Day Sun,” “Clam Caravan” and the pre-Spinal Tap classic “Gimme Some Money,” which was made even more special when the audience was treated by a surprise appearance by star Elvis Costello.
In true Spinal Tap banter, Michael McKean told the crowd as they were about to perform the set closer, “Sex Farm” “We will see you in another 35 years!” We hope so…
This Is Spinal Tap was a slow starter when it was released in 1984, but the film picked up the pace and became a cult classic.
