Frontman Corey Taylor has revealed through social media that he has recently received emergency spinal surgery due to a broken neck. Perhaps whats most incredible is that the singer did not even realise he had sustained the injury.
Posting on Twitter, Taylor said: “Basically broke my neck a while back & didn’t realize it. Had 2 have disc replaced & work on vertebrae. Those 1st shows rescheduled for Aug.”
The shows he is referring to are part of Slipknot’s current joint US tour with goth godfather ‘Marilyn Manson’ and California Metalcore band ‘Of Mice and Men’ which had been due to kick off in Salt Lake City in two days time. The US leg of the tour was set to last until late August before moving onto Australia, New Zealand and Japan later in the year, however due to Taylor’s unexpected injury the first show has now been rescheduled for June 28 starting in Nashville. The shows that have been postponed are yet to have confirmed reschedule dates.
Taylor went on to say: “I am recovering nicely, and all went well! I need a little recovery time before hitting the stage.”
“We will start the summer tour in Nashville on 6/28 and continue as previously scheduled.”
“An update on the rescheduled dates will be available in the next few days. I hope you all understand and thanks for always having my back! Thank you – Corey.”
Taylor’s injury isn’t the first bit of bad luck that has surrounded the band in recent years. Back in 2015 guitarist Mick Thompson was injured during a knife fight with his brother and only a couple of months later bassist Alessandro Venturella was rushed to hospital mid performance after suffering from extreme dehydration.
Hopefully the rest of 2016 goes a little smoother for the band.
