RZA To Make Album Based On Video Games

-

rza1Rapper and founding member of Wu Tang Clan, RZA has confirmed some interesting details about his forthcoming album. The hip hop legend has reportedly signed a deal with video game manufacturer Atari to release an album inspired by some of the companies iconic games.

RZA said of his collaboration with Atari: “I’m so excited to work on these iconic games to deliver what I believe will be one of my best albums. I’m going to invite some of my friends to join me, and it’ll be Game On from the first beat.”

RZA is no stranger to implementing obscure concepts into his music and is somewhat of a renaissance man within the hip hop world. Aside rapping and producing RZA has been a featured actor in a number of movies and even made his directorial debut in 2012 with ‘The Man with the Iron Fists’. He has also written scores for a number of movies and even helped produce a Wu Tang inspired comic book.

The album will follow his current project ‘Love and War’, a collaboration with Interpol’s Paul Banks which is due to be released on August 26 under the pseudonym ‘Banks and Steelz’.

RZA’s commitments with the Atari project will take some of his focus away from the proposed new Wu Tang album with fellow band member Ghostface Killah reportedly taking the reigns. RZA has been the lead producer on all seven of Wu Tang Clan’s records but this time around is more than happy to let someone else take control.

Ghostface Killah referenced this in a recent interview stating: “RZA put the ball in my hand. He said ‘Yo, I want you to do it’ and I’ve been wanting to do it. That’s a big test for me right there.”

Both albums are not expected to be released until 2017.
