Big Little Lies is an upcoming limited-run series to premiere on HBO in 2017. Based on Australian novelist Liane Moriarty’s 2014 best-selling book of the same name, the storyline focuses on a group of mothers whose seemingly perfect lives slowly begin to fall apart —to the point of murder.

The show is to star an impressive list of some of Hollywood’s biggest known names such as Reese Witherspoon (Legally Blonde), Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge), Laura Dern (I Am Sam), James Tupper (How I Met Your Mother), Shailene Woodley (The Fault In Our Stars), and Alexander Skarsgård (The Giver).

Witherspoon will play the role of Madeline, while Kidman will play the role of Celeste. The two female characters play mothers of children in kindergarten; and after they befriend Woodley’s character, Jane (a single mom of an ‘unruly’ little boy), the lives of all three Southern California women take a twisted, unsettling turn.

Oscar-nominated Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club) directs the limited-series.
