Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 30 years, the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of the foremost, even legendary, funk/rock bands of our time.
With the release of the new album called The Getaway, the band is constantly touring and in the press promoting the album.
So with all of this attention on the Peppers right now, we had to laugh when we found out that the band was recently mistaken for other music heavyweights Metallica.
Here’s what happened. Whilst in Belarus recently, a group of customs officials apparently thought the latter, and mistook the boys for Metallica.
According to a Instagram post uploaded by RHCP bassist Flea, he remarked: “We were called into customs officials office at an airport in Belarus and they asked us to sign a bunch of Metallica cd’s and photos. We tried to explain to them that we weren’t Metallica but they insisted that we sign anyway. They had the power. Well I did play ‘fight fire’ with with with [sic] Metallica once. I love Metallica anyways but I’m no Robert Trujillo.”
It’s obvious that the band took this all in stride. After all, maybe all American rock bands look and sound the same to Belarusian ears and eyes?
Hey, maybe the mischievous customs officers who stopped the band have an amazing sense of humour and thought it would be funny to have some fun at the Peppers expense. Either way, it’s a pretty funny story.
