Kinks legend Ray Davies has release a track from his upcoming album via social media. The new single, which is titled ‘Our Country,’ is taken from the new album ‘Our Country: Americana Act II.’ The album’s release date is set for June 29th, and will be distributed via Legacy Recordings/Sony Music Entertainment.
The new album is a direct follow up to 2013’s ‘Americana,‘ and carries on with Davis’ vision of his experiences in the US.
Our Country: Americana Act II was recorded in London at Konk Studios, as was its predecessor, and for tracking, guitarist Bill Shanley and The Jayhawks were on hand to serve as Davis’ main band, plus a host of other top musicians from the UK were at hand.
In a statement to the press for the new album, it says: : “The album picks up several intriguing musical threads from Davies’ extraordinary songwriting catalogue, from the opener Our Country, which is developed from a melodic theme heard in Americana’s title track, to reinterpretations of songs inspired by America and written for various projects over the years.”
Those tracks will include: ‘Oklahoma USA’ which is taken from The Kinks 1971 album Muswell Hillbillies, along with ‘The Real World’ from his 2007 solo album Working Man’s Café, as well as ‘The Getaway’ from 2006’s Other People’s Lives.
Apparently, the album isn’t the only thing in the works. It has also been announced that Davis is working on both a film and a theatre adaptation of both Americana and Our Country: Americana Act II, and news on that will released in the near future.
In addition, it’s been announced that Davies is currently working on a theatre/film project based on both Americana and Our Country: Americana Act II, with details to follow in due course.
