A mysterious new website ProphetsOfRage.com was launched this week by Rage Against The Machine. All it shows is a countdown clock that will end on June 1st with the hashtag #TakeThePowerBack, along with a box to submit your email address. Posters have also been spotted throughout Los Angeles baring the same message.
The first initial reports were that the countdown meant that Rage Against The Machine was teasing fans with the promise of new material. Rage hasn’t produced an album since 2000 and hasn’t performed together since 2011.
But Billboard has since reported that Prophets of Rage is actually a supergroup comprising of three-quarters of Rage Against the Machine—Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk—plus Chuck D of Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill’s B-Real.
Will the countdown finally confirm the lineup and a new album? Prophets of Rage’s first gig is scheduled for the Hollywood Palladium in California on June 3rd.
Rage singer Zack de la Rocha is not believed to have any involvement in the project, and is known to be working on long-awaited solo material with Run The Jewels producer and rapper El-P.
