Queen Top UK Best Selling Album Chart

-

queen1Iconic rock band Queen have retained their place at the top of the all time best selling album charts in the UK. A recent update of the list by The Official Charts Company shows that Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’ album has now sold over six million copies in the UK.

The company finalised its sixtieth revision of the chart this week since beginning on July 22, 1956. The list includes some surprise entries from the almost 1,100 number one albums of the last sixty years, it was however no surprise at all to see Queen in pole position. Their album has been in the Top 100 for an incredible 729 weeks.

Another compilation album features in second place with ABBA’s ‘Gold: Greatest Hits’ which has racked up 5.2 million sales since its release in 1992. The Beatles ‘Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band’ follows closely behind in third place with 5.1 million sales, with Adele’s ’21’ and Oasis’ ‘Whats The Story Morning Glory’ completing the Top 5.

amywinehouse1Some of the more recent entries include Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’ in 13th place, Leona Lewis’ ‘Spirit’ in 23rd place and Michael Buble’s ‘Crazy Love’ in 24th place. Queen have another entry in the Top 10 with their ‘Greatest Hits II’.

Although many of the entries seem obvious, bizarrely some of them never actually hit the number one spot in the UK. Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is the 7th best selling album of all time despite only peaking at number 2 in the charts, whereas Meatloaf’s classic ‘Bat Out of Hell’ album comes in at number 19 in spite of only reaching number 9 in the charts.
