Just as the movie of their life is about to hit theaters, Queen + Adam Lambert kicked off a three-week, 10-show residency at the Park Theater in Las Vegas Sept 1st.
The show, which is called The Crown Jewels, is a serious production. Kicking off with no-nonsense “We Will Rock You” the band smashed through what is essentially their greatest hits. Never far from the crowds minds, images of the bands late singer Freddie Mercury was contant all the time on stage due to video playback in “Love of My Life” and Freddie’s taped vocals on “Day-Oh” created the perfect singalong for the crowd that started the encore. During the show both guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor take solos, and may we say, they kick royal ass.
Singer Adam Lambert was no slouch either. After killing song after song, he paid tribute to May and Taylor, calling them “rock and roll legends,” and then told the crowd: “Some of you might be like, ‘This is great but he’s no Freddie.’ No shit! There can be only one… Do you love Freddie? Do you miss Freddie? Me too. I’m exactly the same as you guys. I’m a fan too.”
The bands biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, is due for release on November 2nd. Starring Rami Malek as Freddie, the film has been in the works for over 10 years, and after a few stops and starts, it finally began production in fall 2017. If the trailers are anything to go by, this will be a classic.
