Nirvana Confronts Conspiracy Theory Rumors With Humor

Nirvana was forced to confront a rather bizarre rumor recently after a story that published in the Daily Mail influenced conspiracy theorists in a pretty wacky direction.

No, frontman Kurt Cobain (who died more than 20 years ago) is not alive and performing past hits on a Peruvian talent show called Yo Soy.

kurt sqA video of singer Ramiro Saavedra performing Nirvana’s “Come As You Are” on the show went viral in 2012, and for whatever mystery left to the wonders of cyber land, it has caused a stir among conspiracy theorists in present day.

But the video of Saavedra involves a performance on guitar played with the right hand while one of Cobain’s claims to fame was his grunge-laden approach to ripping on the strings with his left hand.

Nirvana broke the news to the believers in a statement on their official Facebook page.

“It is true, Kurt is alive,” the statement read in humor. “He needed time to learn to play the guitar with his right hand. Finding left-handed guitars is not easy. We are so happy to have him back and forgive him for all of the sadness that we have held so deeply in our hearts.”

It’s safe to say that the rumor has subsequently been squashed.
