Singer Nelly Furtado has shared a brand new track titled ‘Pipe Dreams’. The song is set to feature on her upcoming 2017 album ‘The Ride’, and is the first record Furtado has released since September’s ‘Islands of Me’.
Furtado first hit the music scene with her brilliant debut album ‘Whoa, Nelly!’ in the year 2000. Supported by the hit songs ‘I’m Like a Bird’ and ‘Turn Off The Light’, the album was a surprise hit; particularly in the UK, where it charted at number 2 despite only reaching the 24th spot in the US.
The album has since been certified platinum in seven countries.
After failing to live up to her initial success with follow up record ‘Folklore’, Furtado bounced back in spectacular style with her third studio album, the brilliant Timbaland produced ‘Loose’.
‘Loose’ brought with it a new sexier side of Furtado, and spawned the hit songs ‘Maneater’, ‘Promiscuous’ and ‘All Good Things (Come To An End)’.
Furtado has since released two further studio albums, 2009’s ‘Mi Plan’ and 2012’s ‘The Spirit Indestructible’. Despite achieving moderate success, the records have failed to inspire the same level of popularity that had surrounded Furtado’s previous releases.
The 37 year old is now back with ‘Pipe Dreams’, a beautifully constructed track that brings with it a dreamier, more mysterious, downbeat sound from Furtado.
In a recent interview, Furtado said of ‘Pipe Dreams’: “the false hope of dreaming even when you want to live in a fantasy” on ‘Pipe Dreams’. “A lot of [The Ride] touches on that, in terms of sanity versus reality. The comedown, the hangover after the rush, and how you put the pieces back together, and how you make amends with the realer parts of life,”
The new album will be made available on March 3, 2017 and has been produced by John Congleton (Explosions In The Sky, St. Vincent).
