Heavy Metal icons Metallica have just announced the band’s first studio album in eight years: Hardwired … to Self-Destruct.
This also marks their first record release since they parted company with their old label, Warner Bros. This release will be coming out on Metallica’s own Blackened Recordings label on the 18th of November.
The new album, which you can purchase as a double CD or the now ’very much in vogue’ double vinyl set, was produced by Greg Fidelman, the same man who produced and engineered this album’s predecessor, Death Magnetic.
Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich said of the release: “ We’re obviously beyond psyched to share new tunes with all our friends out there.” Adding: “We’ve been rockin’ along in the studio with Greg on and off for the last 18 months firing up the creative engines again. Putting new music out there, getting in your faces once again and all that comes with it is what we love to do more than anything else, so strap yourselves in.”
Since the release of the album Reload in 1997 nearly 20 years ago, Metallica’s recording career has been stop and start with only putting out only two studio albums: St Anger in 2003 and Death Magnetic in 2008.
Fans haven’t been totally starved of material though. In 2013, the band released the concert film Metallica: Through the Never; the film combined live footage with a confusing storyline about a young roadie adrift in an apocalyptic city. The film, though, was a commercial failure, only taking in $3.4m at the US box office.
