Trip Hop giants Massive Attack have launched three brand new songs on their sensory music player ‘Fantom’. The Bristol two-piece first launched the app back in January, with the intention of giving each individual listener a unique experience of their music.
The tracks entitled ‘The Spoils’, ‘Dear Friend’ and ‘Come Near Me’ are rumoured to be from the band’s forthcoming EP which will be their first release since Januarys ‘Ritual Spirit’.
‘Fantom’ is one of the more innovative electronic music projects in recent years. The song’s are released as snippets that the user can then make their own remixes of using a variety of sensory functions including location, movement, heartbeat and manipulation of the camera.
Upon ‘Fantom’s’ release, the app already included a number of track snippets that went on to feature in the ‘Ritual Spirit EP’. At the time the band said that fans could expect at least one more EP in 2016 and perhaps a full length album before the year is out. Due to these comments and the most recent ‘Fantom’ updates, there is growing speculation that Massive Attack may drop their new EP in the next few days.
‘Ritual Spirit’ was mainly written and produced by band member Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja and Euan Dickinson. The duo’s official blog has stated that the upcoming second EP will be more ‘Daddy G centric’.
The band are currently half way through their European Tour and play Italy’s Flegrea Arena tonight. They will also be playing at ‘Flow’ Festival in Finland, ‘Way Out West’ Festival in Sweden and ‘Rock En Seine’ Festival in France before concluding their tour with a huge homecoming show at ‘Clifton Downs’ in Bristol on September 3.
