Crystal Castles’ former frontwonman Alice Glass has released a new single from her incoming solo project.
Titled “Without Love,” the track was released through Loma vista Recordings and serves as a follow-up to her non-album debut single “Stillbirth” from 2015.
Noise rock band Health’s past member Jupiter Keyes co-wrote “Without Love.”
The 28-year-old Canadian songwriter parted ways with Crystal Castles in 2014, stating in a series of tweets, “I am leaving Crystal Castles. My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others. For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal I no longer feel that this is possible within CC. Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles.”
Glass’s first solo record is still in the works and an official drop date has yet to be announced.
She and Crystal Castles’ Ethan Kath were involved in a short online dispute shortly after her departure, to which she talk about in an interview with NME last year.
“For the majority of my career I was conflicted,” she said. “I would go onstage and show this aggressive, angry side of myself. It was an expression of my frustration and desperation. It was a way for me to communicate what I was going through without having to explain anything offstage, because I didn’t want to be seen as vulnerable. It was a way to be confrontational when in my personal life I felt like my feelings weren’t respected. It was deeply miserable.”
“I felt like I was lying to my fans even though my way of speaking out was the most honest expression which I had available to me at the time. Now I feel like I’m finally learning to use my voice.”
