One Direction’s Liam Payne has teased fans with a short preview from his upcoming solo album. Payne is now the third member of One Direction to go it alone, following both Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.
Payne revealed back in July that he had singed a solo recording contract with Capitol Records. It now appears that the singer is a considerable way into recording a new album, and may be heading in a new musical direction. Payne posted a short preview of an original song on his instagram page yesterday (October 29). Shortly after, he tweeted: “Just finished a busy day in the studio,” “May not a be song I release but wanted to invite you into the writing process hope you enjoyed it.”
The new track has no title or apparent release information, but has a very strong R&B vibe not dissimilar to former 1D bandmate Zayn Malik’s recent work. The track preview included tags that linked to the profiles of producers Ben Billions and Danny Boy Styles, who are perhaps best known for their work with The Weeknd. It also includes a tag for singer songwriter Bibi Bourelly, who has famously composed songs for Usher, Selena Gomez and Rihanna.
The preview has already attracted around 800,000 views on instagram.
Referencing his recent solo recording contract, Payne recently stated: “I’m really happy to have signed to such a prestigious label as Capitol Records UK.” “Capitol Records has an amazing history stretching right back before even Frank Sinatra and I’m really looking forward to becoming part of their story.”
The label later said of Payne: “Capitol Records UK are incredibly excited to be working with Liam. It’s not often you get the chance to sign such a talented and ambitious 22 year old who has already conquered the world.”
