Les Paul Legends: Paul Kossoff

Paul Kossoff may not be the first name you think of when it comes to legends of the Les Paul, KOSSOFF SQbut as the guitarist for the band Free, Kossoff took blues, soul, and rock and with the sweet tone of his Les Paul, created some of the most memorable riff and solo’s of the 70’s and 80’s. You can hear some of his extended guitar solos on Free’s early albums like, Tons Of Sobs and Free.

He owned several ’50s and ’60s Les Pauls, perhaps most notably a ’59 sunburst stripped to a natural finish, and a ’58 he got in a trade with Eric Clapton.

Tragically, Kossoff passed away at the age of 25, but his playing and songwriting has been immortalized by the release of several posthumous selections such as Koss.
