Indie pop supergroup The Last Shadow Puppets have shared an incredible new video for their cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Is This What You Wanted’. The song is rumoured to be featured on their upcoming EP ‘The Dream Synopsis’.
2016 has been quite the year for The Last Shadow Puppets. Arctic Monkey’s frontman Alex Turner and Miles Kane reformed the band earlier this year, and released their second studio album ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’ back in April. The record peaked at number one in the UK, and was supported by the brilliant singles ‘Aviation’, ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’, ‘Bad Habits’ and ‘Miracle Aligner’.
Since the release of the record, the duo have gained notoriety for their eccentric live performances, lavish fashion sense and occasional drunken interview. The boys have now released an uber 1960’s stylised music video for their version of the Leonard Cohen classic ‘Is This What You Wanted’. The song was originally released by Cohen in 1974 and featured on his album ‘New Skin For The Old Ceremony’.
Although much of TLSP’s recent work has tended towards a more slow dance / crooner style, the cover may been viewed as a tip of the hat to Cohen, who has been making plenty of headlines himself over the last few weeks.
The 82 year old recently told interviewers that he was ‘ready to die’, stating: “I don’t think I’ll be able to finish those songs. Maybe, who knows? And maybe I’ll get a second wind, I don’t know. But I don’t dare attach myself to a spiritual strategy. I don’t dare do that.”
“I’ve got some work to do, take care of business. I am ready to die. I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.”
The Last Shadow Puppets upcoming EP ‘The Dream Synopsis’ will be released on December 2. Leonard Cohen’s upcoming studio album ‘You Want It Darker’ comes out a little earlier on October 21.
