Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar has finally released his fourth studio album after months of speculation. The new record, titled ‘DAMN’ is Kendrick’s first official release since 2015’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’.
Kendrick Lamar is one of the most innovative musicians to grace the hip hop scene in years, and the music industry has been patiently awaiting the release of his fourth studio record for the past few months.
Kendrick’s most recent album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ made a profound effect of the music community when it was released back in 2015. The record peaked at number one in both the US and UK, and was supported by the huge singles ‘I’, ‘The Blacker The Berry’, ‘King Kunta’, ‘Alright’ and ‘These Walls’. The album has since been certified platinum in the US, and is now considered one of the most inspirational records in the history of hip hop music.
In 2016, Kendrick released a compilation record dubbed ‘untitled, unmastered’. The record signalled a stark change in direction for the rapper, and contained elements of jazz, soul and avant-garde. ‘untitled, unmastered’ was a huge hit with the critics, but most importantly it inspired immense excitement amongst fans for a future studio release.
After months of waiting, Kendrick finally released his brand new album ‘DAMN’ on April 14. The record was preceded by lead singe ‘Humble’ on March 30, and has already received glittering reviews in many of the top music publications. ‘DAMN’ features not only regular Kendrick collaborators such as Terrance Martin and Thundercat, but also Rihanna, U2 and James Blake.
