Rapper Kanye West is reported to have been released from hospital following his public breakdown last week. West was taken to UCLA Medical Centre after is was announced that he was suffering from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration.
Kanye West has never been far from controversy. From his Hurricane Katrina outburst to the numerous Taylor Swift mishaps, there has always been a sort of inevitability to his recent hospitalisation.
Despite his previous controversies, the last few weeks have been particularly bizarre for Kanye. During the course of his most recent ‘Saint Pablo’ tour, the 39 year old admitted that he would have voted for Donald Trump, called out Jay Z for not contacting him following Kim Kardashian’s robbery, suggested that Beyonce had bribed her way to winning a recent VMA and finally alluded to the fact that Jay Z may be trying to have him killed.
The last outburst, in which Kanye stated: “I’ve been sent here to give y’all the truth. Jay Z, call me, bruh! You still ain’t call me! Jay Z, call me! I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head! Just call me! Talk to me like a man!” seemed to be the final straw. Kanye stormed off the stage after just 30 minutes and cancelled the remainder of his ‘Saint Pablo’ tour, with 21 dates left to play.
Kanye has now been given permission to return home, under the care of his wife Kim Kardashian.
A number of fellow celebrities and musicians have showed their support for Kanye via social media this week.
Lady Gaga tweeted: “It’s not funny to joke about anyone’s possible or not possible mental illness, this is a sensitive time for many. Let’s be kind & loving,” “While I don’t agree with everything he does I hope the public shows compassion and [heart emoji] for @kanyewest and each other. One love. One Race.”
