John Lennon Referred To Elvis As’ Fat’ In Word Association Game

We’re learning more about where late Beatles man John Lennon’s was in the mid to late 1970s. His official Instagram page has uploaded a rare 1976 word association game that Lennon was asked to play and in the game, the iconic singer-songwriter calls Elvis Presley ‘fat.’

Interestingly, this was just a year before a very overweight Elvis was to die from a heart attack at the age of 42 at the Graceland compound in Memphis, Tennessee.

We also get a glimpse of where his head was with regards to his Beatles bands mates at the time with Lennon praising Paul McCartney as being ‘extra-ordinary’ but as for George Harrison, he described him as ‘lost.’ Lennon also referred to Ringo Starr as a ‘friend.’

Here’s how the word game went. Today, how do you associate to the following, described in one word?”

New York: Great
Elvis: Fat
Ringo: Friend
Yoko: Love
Howard Cosell: Hum
George: Lost
Bootlegs: Good
Elton: Nice
Paul: Extra-ordinary
Bowie: Thin
M.B.E: Shit
John: Great.

Lennon’s Instagram account has been busy as of late, it also recently posted:

‘I’m a cinema verité guitarist; I’m a musician and you have to break down your barriers to hear what I’m playing. I’m an artist and if you give me a tuba, I’ll bring you something out of it.’ – JL, 1970

Caption from The Beatles Book Monthly No. 128: ‘John showed us the weirdest collection of musical instruments we’d ever seen in his Weybridge home. Here he is playing the top half of a Swiss horn!’

  1. The only two worldwide known celebriters who associated Elvis with being fat were John Lennon and Marlon Brando. However, it must be pointed put that Brando died 160 pounds heavier than Presley and that Lennon was killed by a fan of his , not by a fan of Brando, let alone by a fan of Elvis. While Liverpool is the 12th busiest airport in the UK, in spite of carrying Lennons’s name, Graceland is the 2nd most visited home in America, right after the White House, which makes it certainly the third most visited home in the world, after that of Mozart, in Salzburg.
