When you go and see your favorite artist—and it’s a gig as special as Madison Square Garden—what more could you ask for, right? Well, Billy Joel fans were in rock star heaven this week. Whilst reveling in Joel’s show, his fans were treated to, not one, but two, surprise appearances during his residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Wednesday night (October 21st).
“Ride Like The Wind” hit-maker Steve Miller got up on stage with Joel. The pair jammed to “The Joker” the Steve Miller Band hit. Lucky for Joel and Steve Miller fans, Miller was in New York to receive the Rocker of the Year Award at the annual Little Kids Rock benefit gala.
And, as if that wasn’t enough, guitarist John Mayer also hit the stage the same night. He played guitar on Joel’s songs “This Is the Time” and “You May Be Right”. That, plus a rendition of the Cream/Eric Clapton arrangement of the Robert Johnson classic “Crossroads” had fans in dreamland.
In 2014, Joel became the first music franchise at Madison Square Garden. With Joel’s catalog of great songs, and the respect he has from his contemporaries, you never know who’s going to turn up at future gigs.
