Esteemed British actor Jim Broadbent is set to join the cast of Game of Thrones for their upcoming seventh season. It will be the second time Broadbent has appeared in an on screen version of a popular book series, after appearing as Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter film franchise.
The news of Broadbent’s inclusion is one of the few pieces of information that has been made available by the highly secretive show. However, both Kit Harrington (John Snow) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) have suggested that the show may take some hugely unexpected turns next season… even by Game of Thrones’ standards. Williams went as far as stating that: “I’d start preparing yourselves now.” “Scratch that, nothing will prepare you for this. … holy BALLS.”
Broadbent, who is perhaps best known for his roles in ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘Iris’ and ‘Gangs of New York’ has had one of his busiest years to date as an actor. The 67 year old has already appeared in ‘Eddie The Eagle’, ‘The Legend of Tarzan’ and the BBC’s latest rendition of Tolstoy’s ‘War & Peace’, and is due to star in both ‘The Sense of an Ending’ and ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ before the year is out.
Game of Thrones’ show runners have stated that Broadbent will play a significant role in the upcoming series however specific character details are yet to be released.
Season 7 is due to air sometime next summer and will run for around seven episodes. Here is what Kit Harrington had this to say about the upcoming season: “If there’s any sort of win or heroic moment for Jon and everyone else. I think it’s going to get very dark before it gets better. I think what we might see this season is those White Walkers and that Army of the Dead really come into force. So that’s going to be exciting to see.”
“I think with the whole “winter is finally here” business, it means everyone is going to have a really bad time,”
