Academy award winning actor Jared Leto has been linked with a role in the upcoming Blade Runner sequel. Leto will join Hollywood heavyweights Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in the follow up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic.
Blade Runner is one of the most beloved science fiction movies in the history of cinema. As well as being a visual masterpiece, it has a fantastic script adapted from Phillip K. Dick’s novel ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ and has gained one of the largest cult followings of any stand alone movie. The film is arguably Ridley Scott’s finest creation and certainly one of Harrison Ford’s greatest ever roles.
The announcement of a Blade Runner sequel last year was met with mixed reactions. Some fans had waited over 30 years to revisit its dystopian world whilst others disliked the idea of tampering with the legacy of the original movie.
However, it seems that with each new announcement regarding ‘Blade Runner 2’, there is a fresh injection of hope that this could potentially be a modern classic, and the latest news surrounding Leto’s inclusion will undoubtedly be met with praise from Blade Runner fans.
Leto has really began to hit his stride recently with some fantastic performances. He has always had great potential as an actor, but his roles in both 2013’s ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ (for which he won an Oscar) and 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad’ have set him apart from many of his contemporaries.
What else we know about Blade Runner 2
The sequel will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, who was the man responsible for both ‘Prisoners’ and the brilliant ‘Sicario’. Alongside Ford and Gosling the movie will also feature performances from Robin Wright, Carla Juri, Hiam Abbass, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de Armas and Dave Bautista.
Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard but so far no other characters have been confirmed. The film is due for release sometime in 2017.
