It has been reported that One Direction’s Harry Styles may be releasing a solo album in the near future. The news comes just days after worldwide speculation that Styles may have officially left 1D, following his foray into acting.
Harry Styles is perhaps the most popular member of One Direction. At just 23 years old, the singer has won a number of fashion awards, dated Taylor Swift, and is set to appear in his first movie when Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’ is released in July.
So far Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson have released solo records, and Liam Payne is expected to make his solo bow in early 2017. Styles has been reasonably quiet about his inevitable solo career; however, a senior representative at Colombia Records has now hinted that an album may be coming out sooner than previously expected.
Speaking to Billboard, Rob Stringer explained: “We’re close and we’re very excited,” “We have a record we’re incredibly excited about and it’s not far away from being ready. We obviously want everything to be beautifully done, because we think he’s here to stay. Harry has stepped up with the vision of someone who’s authentic.”
When asked how Styles’ material may compare to the solo work of fellow One Directioners Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, Stringer stated: “They didn’t box themselves into a corner singing and dancing.” “It didn’t have all the rules of the boy bands of the past where they’re too boy-next-door, too sickly sweet. They weren’t caricatures. And today, they’re making smart choices. It doesn’t surprise me that there’s is a different path and they’re doing pretty well. With One Direction, they became so big everywhere and from day one that their spread is much wider than other previous boy bands.”
Dunkirk is set to be released on July 21.
