One Direction singer Harry Styles is reported to have signed his first solo recording contract. The 22 year old has decided to stick with label Columbia Records whom also have a contract with group One Direction.
The group have been on hiatus since early 2016 and Styles is set to become the first One Direction member to release a solo effort since former member Zayn Malik released his album ‘Mind of Mine’ on March 25th.
Rumours began to circulate after it was reported that Styles had registered four songs with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers last year, the singer also changed management companies around the same time. So far there has been no official news of potential singles or release dates.
The recent reports come coupled with news that Styles has been working on new material with OneRepublic singer Ryan Tedder. Tedder mentioned the collaboration in an interview with radio station Key103 stating: “We’ve done a couple of things, I have no idea what they’re for. I don’t know if he’s doing an album, I truthfully don’t.”
Outside of his music career Styles has also branched out into acting and is set to feature in ‘Dunkirk’, a World War 2 drama directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan of ‘Batman: The Dark Knight’ and ‘Interstellar’ fame.
It also appears that the rest of the One Direction boys have been keeping busy in their time off from the band. Niall Horan has been concentrating on his golf company as well as making plans for a solo album, Louis Tomlinson has been attempting to launch his own record label and Liam Payne is trying his hand at songwriting.
Zayn Malik achieved huge commercial success with his debut effort reaching the number one spot in both the UK and US and Styles will surely want to match his former bandmate’s accomplishments.
