Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) is rumoured to be first choice to play Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo movie. The 32 year old actor is also set to feature in the new Spiderman movie, ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’.
Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm and with it the Star Wars brand from George Lucas back in 2012, the world has been expecting an onslaught of non stop new Star Wars movies and endless spin offs. The next upcoming Star Wars movie ‘Rogue One’ is set for release in December of this year however, the movie that most people are actually excited about is the forthcoming Han Solo biopic.
The latest news regarding the movie is that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller want Donald Glover to play the role of Lando Calrissian.
Lando Calrissian is one of the most beloved characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. Lando first appears in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ as the administrator of Cloud City. It is often hinted that he and Han Solo had numerous adventures together and hopefully some of these adventures will be played out in the upcoming movie.
Glover has acted in 8 movies since 2009 but is perhaps best known for his role as Troy Barnes in hit US comedy show ‘Community’.
What else do we know about the Han Solo movie?
Firstly, we can expect a brilliant storyline. The script has been written by the father son duo of Lawrence and Jon Kasdan. Lawrence Kasdan worked on the scripts for both ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’. He was also a main script writer for the most recent Star Wars movie ‘The Force Awakens’.
Han Solo will be played by fantastic young actor Alden Ehrenreich. Ehrenreich stole the show in the Cohen brothers movie ‘Hail, Caesar!’ earlier this year and seems like a superb choice to play a young Han.
The film is set to be released on May 25th 2018.
