DJ Calvin Harris is reportedly in talks to join UK talent show The X Factor. The 32 year old had previously received a lifelong ban from X Factor co-creator Simon Cowell.
The X Factor returned to British screens last night (August 27) but is said to have experienced its lowest opening ratings since 2005. It was still the most watched Saturday night television show in the UK with an impressive 6.8 million viewers however, this was way down on 2015’s ratings of 7.8 million viewers.
In truth, the shows ratings have been on a steady decline since 2010 and there is a suggestion that the general public may finally be starting to tire of the X Factor. In a bid to maintain the shows waining popularity, this years judging panel contains some of the most popular judges from the shows 13 year history including Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Sherzinger.
The show has also brought back presenter Dermot O’Leary after the publics negative reaction to 2015’s presenting duo of Caroline Flack and Olly Murs.
It is yet unknown as to what part Harris will play in the upcoming series, however it is widely rumoured that the DJ will be a guest judge for one of this years episodes.
Harris famously stormed the X Factor stage during a Jedward performance back in 2009. He ran up to the duo and put his arm round them before quickly exiting the stage, all the while holding a pineapple above his head mocking Jedward’s extravagant hairstyles. Harris reportedly received a lifelong ban for his actions but has since been forgiven by Simon Cowell.
An inside source at the X Factor had this say: ‘Calvin is rightly regarded as one of the biggest artists in music due to his phenomenal chart success. ‘Simon wants A-listers on board and made a beeline for Calvin, ensuring him there would be no issues after the Jedward row.
‘It was a long time ago and both have moved on so much since then.’
