Popstar Ariana Grande has made headlines this week following the wikileaks leaked emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC). One of the emails suggests that the singer should be left out of a performance at the White House following a online video of her licking donuts and criticising America.
The video initially emerged last September. In the footage Grande is seen licking a number of donuts at a Wolfee Donuts store in California and then putting them back without purchasing any of the soiled items. Grande could also be heard stating: “I hate Americans. I hate America,” after the event had taken place.
Grande later apologised for her actions saying: “Seeing a video of yourself behaving poorly that you had no idea was taken is such a rude awakening,”
“It’s like you don’t know what to do; I was so disgusted with myself, I wanted to shove my face in a pillow and just disappear. But instead of that I’m going to come forward and own up to what I did and take responsibility and say I’m sorry… Seeing how ugly it looks when you behave a certain way makes you want to never behave that way again. You learn from it… I never want to be anything less than a positive influence.”
The event had been largely forgotten, however it has now emerged that her actions may have had more profound consequences than Grande had imagined.
The recent wikileaks DMC leaks have led to a number of controversies, most notably the suggested sabotage of Senator Bernie Sanders presidential campaign to benefit democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
Another email has appeared this week which features an exchange between Finance Chair Zachary Allen and a college named Kevin. Within the emails are discussions regarding Grande in which Allen asks his college to ‘vet’ the singer ahead of an upcoming White House performance. Kevin states in one of his replies:
“Video caught her licking other peoples’ donuts while saying she hates America; Republican Congressman used this video and said it was a double standard that liberals were not upset with her like they are with Trump who criticized Mexicans; cursed out a person on Twitter after that person used an offensive word towards her brother.”
Grande is yet to post an official response.
