A number of rumours have began to circulate regarding Atlanta hip hop duo Outkast. The group who’s last record was back in 2006, have been named checked by fellow Atlantan Gucci Mane, who claims that he has recorded a new record with the group.
Gucci Mane was released from prison earlier in 2016 after serving two years for possession of a firearm. He has since been making up for lost time by working on a number of new projects. The rapper made the statement that started the Outkast rumours, via an instagram video post yesterday.
Outkast have been one of the biggest names in hip hop since the mid 1990s. They reached the peak of their success in the early 2000s with their incredible double album ‘Speakerboxxx/The Love Below’. ‘Speakerboxxx’ was a number one record in both the US and UK and has gone on to become certified 11X platinum.
Their follow up record 2006’s ‘Idlewild’ did not quite live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, and both Andre 3000 and Big Boi took an extended hiatus from recording full studio records under the Outkast moniker.

Andre 3000 has turned his focus primarily to acting, but has appeared as a featured artist on a number of hit records. He most recently featured on the song ‘Solo (Reprise)’ from Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’.
Both Andre and Big Boi have become notorious for deflecting questions about a possible new Outkast record however, the duo did briefly reform in 2014 for a series of live performances, one of which was a headline spot at Coachella. Andre 3000 said of the shows: “It was a great thing; everybody enjoyed themselves. The fans got something they really didn’t expect. And I didn’t expect that at the time – we just went out and had a good time.”
