British indie rockers Alt-J have released a brand new track from their upcoming third studio album ‘Relaxer’. The track, titled ‘In Cold Blood’ is only the second song the band have released since 2014 and follows last months ‘3WW’.
Alt-J are a three-piece band formed in Leeds, England in 2007. The group first gained international recognition when their debut album ‘An Awesome Wave’ (2012) won the prestigious Mercury Prize.
‘An Awesome Wave’ peaked at number 13 in the UK Albums chart and was supported by the popular singles ‘Breezeblocks’, ‘Tessellate’, ‘Something Good’ and ‘Matilda/Fitzpleasure’. The record well incredibly well received by both music critics and the British public and has since been certified platinum in the UK.
Alt-J released their follow up record ‘This Is All Yours’ in 2014. Building on the initial success of their first record, ‘This Is All Yours’ debuted at number one in the UK and number four on the Billboard 200. It was eventually nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Alternative Music Album’.
The band suffered a huge setback when bassist Gwil Sainsbury departed in early 2014. They have remained relatively quiet ever since but recently announced that they have been working on a new studio album.
In a 2016 interview drummer Thom Sonny Green said of the upcoming record: “[We’re] very excited about it, I think it’s going to be pretty interesting, I feel like it’ll be different, but I don’t know. It’s funny that we write together so well and it comes pretty naturally and pretty quick.”
It has since been confirmed that the upcoming album will be titled ‘Relaxer’ and is due to be released on June 2.
