Actor Michael Jace, formerly known as LAPD officer Julien Lowe on FX crime drama The Shield, has been found guilty of second-degree murder.
The 53-year-old shot his wife in front of their two sons in April of 2014; and according to the prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Tannaz Mokayef, Jace was simply upset his wife requested a divorce.
In a recording released by the Los Angeles Fire Department, Jace’s father-in-law relayed how he discovered his daughter’s unfortunate fate that evening. “My son-in-law called me and texted me and said come get the kids because he shot April, our daughter.”
The actor’s lawyers went against charges of first-degree murder and instead fought for voluntary manslaughter considering the fatal act of violence was not premeditated.
Jace was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison: 15 years to life for murder, and 25 years to life for gun enhancement.
