Pete Doherty Releases “The Whole World Is Our Playground”

Pete Doherty is best known as the suave co-frontman of English garage band The Libertines, frontman for Babyshambles, and who once had a not-so-secret love affair with bombshell supermodel Kate Moss.

As a follow up to The Libertines’ 2015 touring comeback, and Doherty’s 2009 solo record pete sqGrace/Wastelands, the hip rocker will be releasing his second solo album at an unknown date later this year.

You can now listen to his new single, “The Whole World Is Our Playground”, which was also available as a special limited edition 12” vinyl to have celebrated this year’s Record Day (April 16), with only 1,200 copies available worldwide.

With NME calling the single “classic Pete”, we’d have to agree. The track is set against a twang-tinged, acoustic sound with Doherty casually singing out poetic phrases with his husky, bedroom voice. “The whole world is our playground,” he sings, “take the night by the hand, and set it on fire again.”

Doherty has been added to this year’s list of performers at the 11th annual Kendal Calling—an indie music festival held at Lowther Deer Park in Lake District, Cumbria. Other renowned names on the lineup are Rudimental, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, We Are Scientists, and Ghostpoet.
