Halsey, another ferociously talented up-and-coming female artist, debuted her song “Castle” live in 2016 at the MTV Movie Awards.
The haunting track underwent a powerful makeover for the film, complete with a full
orchestral ensemble, and is now featured on the official soundtrack for the soon-to-be released film The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
You can catch the singer/songwriter in her video debut of “Castle” where she is adorned in a glittering dress and gold crown singing as various and telling clips of the movie are shown.
While Halsey is filed under electro-pop and alternative genres, the confident artist spoke to Rolling Stone back in February of this year on her take of the concept of a genre altogether.
“Genre in 2016 is just absolute bullsh*t,” she said. “Half the records on hip-hop radio are pop records at their core, and half the records in f**king alternative radio are pop. And pop radio doesn’t even know what the f**k it’s doing. I end up pleading my case to alternative programmers — you’re telling me that my music is too dark for pop, too pop for alternative, and urban radio won’t touch it — so we have a record that doesn’t fit in. And what is more alternative than that?”
The 22-year-old from New Jersey signed with Astralwerks in 2015 and released her debut album Badlands the same year, where “Castle” is among the list of 11 ghostly songs.
Starring Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, The Huntsman: Winter’s War was released in the UK on April 4, 2016, and is set to hit theaters in the US this coming April 22.
