We love Weezer and can’t get enough of Rivers Cuomo. The singer debuted a heavily jeweled Elvis type jumpsuit this week when Weezer appeared on US TV’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
With this week’s release of the Californian natives’ tenth album, which is the band’s fourth self-titled release (also known as The White Album). The band is making its presence known again on the live TV circuits.
As part of the new album’s PR, one fan of the band’s paid $25,000 (£17,500) to go bird watching with Cuomo.
This whacky trip was made available as part of the ‘Weezer Experience Bundle’. The band came up with the idea and offered it to fans who chose to pre-order the new album. Not content with the standard CD, download and vinyl formats of the album, Weezer decided to mix it up and put it out there that fans could pay to take a trip to the Galapagos Islands with Cuomo in order to spot rare birds together.
It worked. On the band’s Facebook page, Weezer confirmed that the offer has been snatched up up by one (we assume wealthy) fan. The original offer did include travel as part of the price, where the fan would have a chance to hang with Cuomo, as the mode of transport to the Galapagos Islands would be a Greyhound bus.
