Stars Pay Tribute To Bowie At Epic Brixton Show

bowietributeconcert1A concert was held last night (January 8) to celebrate what would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday. Bowie tragically passed away on January 10 last year at the age of 69. His passing came as a huge shock to many of his fans worldwide, who were unaware that the singer was battling cancer.

Of all the celebrity deaths of 2016, David Bowie’s was perhaps the most unexpected. Ever the showman, Bowie released his twenty fifth studio album ‘Blackstar’ just two days before his passing, and by the time many of his fans had heard the morbidly prophetic first lyrics of his song ‘Lazarus’ (“Look up here i’m in heaven. I’ve got scars that can’t be seen”) Bowie was gone.

Over the past year there have been a number of tributes to the great man, and last night’s birthday concert was undeniably one of the best.

The concert featured a number of Bowie’s friends, collaborators, bandmates and fellow musicians who came together to perform an incredible 33 song set at the Brixton Academy in London. Celebrations were led by actor and long time friend of Bowie; Gary Oldman, and featured musical performances by Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon, Tony Hadley, La Roux, Tom Chaplin, Angelo Moore and Mr Hudson.
