Australian singer/songwriter Sia has maintained a prominent reputation of mystery with her face-adorning wigs and heart-stirring pop hooks – and her signature style shines yet again in the video debut of her single “Cheap Thrills”.
The video showcases popular child dancer, model, and actress Maddie Ziegler,
who has starred in a number of the creative performer’s videos in the past, such as “Chandelier”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, and “Elastic Heart”.
Again teaming up with filmmaker Daniel Askill, the video features a large square-shaped installation lit up in purple with Sia singing in the corner, dressed in white, and Ziegler dancing energetically with two other male dancers.
Ziegler is known for her appearances on six seasons of Lifetime’s controversial reality show Dance Moms with TIME magazine having titled her one of the 30 most influential teens of 2015. The 13-year old rising star has also worked with Sia as a dancer for a number of her live performances, and is rumored to be in line next as a judge on the upcoming fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.
Said of her first introduction with Sia, Ziegler told EW in 2015 that she had been contacted via a tweet. “I didn’t even see [the tweet],” she said. “It was my mom or someone on my team that saw it, and I was like, this isn’t even real. Someone’s trying to prank me. I didn’t know what to expect, but the second she saw me, she just ran and gave me a big hug. We just felt like we knew each other, really.”
Ziegeler will appear in a new film by director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World), The Book Of Henry. The film will also star actress Naomi Watts, comedian Sarah Silverman, and Canadian child actor Jacob Tremblay.
It looks like Maddie Ziegler has a bright future ahead of her.
