Rihanna To Headline Free 2016 Global Citizen Festival

On September 24th, and for the fifth time, the Global Citizen Festival—a free festival that will be held on the Great Lawn of New York City’s famed Central Park. The festival will be packed with an awesome lineup for 2016.

The lineup is an extension of the festival’s message, one of worldwide unity, global sq and this year’s fest has a little something for everyone.

Heavyweight acts such as: Rihanna, Metallica, Kendrick Lamar, Major Lazer, and Selena Gomez are just some of the big name acts due to appear at the music festival.

Hosted by Chelsea Handler, Deborra-Lee & Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Seth Meyers, the festival’s main aim is to “harness actions from millions of Global Citizens around the world to hold world leaders accountable to the progress made toward achieving the Global Goals set out by the United Nations.”

The festival does this by asking attendees to the festival to “earn your tickets” by tweeting, signing petitions, and writing messages to world leaders pushing for them to advance education initiatives and other causes. The causes change every two weeks.

Coldplay singer Chris Martin curates the whole event. Special guests include Pearl Jam’s singer Eddie Vedder, Usher, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), Ellie Goulding, and Yandel.

The festival released a statement saying: “Since 2012, more than six million actions from Global Citizens have led world leaders to enact policy changes and commit significant resources to issues of girls and women’s equality, education, health, water and sanitation, environment, finance and innovation, and food and hunger.”

While the event is free, there are a small number of VIP tickets available via Ticketmaster.

The same day as the festival kicks off (Sept. 24TH) Chance The Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring Day in Chicago — and will be live-streamed via Global Citizen’s YouTube channel.
