From writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig (Post Grad) will come a coming-of-age tale playing on the perils of high-school woe.
The Edge of Seventeen is a 104-minute comedy drama that centers on Nadine, a high-school junior, whose life couldn’t seem to get any worse when her best friend Krista starts dating her popular older brother, Darian. Feeling down in the dirt and completely alone, Nadine soon befriends a fellow teen peer who lifts her spirits in the most unexpected of ways.
Rated R, the film stars Hailee Steinfeld (The Keeping Room), Woody Harrelson (True Detective), Kyra Sedgwick (The Possession), Haley Lu Richardson (The Bronze), Hayden Szeto (Fortune Cookie), and Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some!!).
The film was premiered this past September 18 at the Toronto International Film Festival where it received high praise, and has since then earned great critical acclaim with Indie Wire saying, “Pick a god, any god, and thank them for this movie.”
Nineteen-year-old actress Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the adored role of main character Nadine, told EW in a recent interview she feels the upcoming film just might be the high school film to speak for her generation.
“It really is on all fronts, the reality of today,” she said. “You walk through the hallways of a high school, that’s what you hear, that’s how people talk. There’s no shy approach to anything in this movie, whether it’s the language or the sexuality of how today’s communication affects things.”
I do feel like there’s a conversation to be had after young people see this movie. I really think they can call it their own.”
The Edge of Seventeen will land in theaters nationwide on Friday, November 18, 2016 via STX Entertainment.
