After Adele cleaned up at this years Grammy Awards, a number of Beyonce fans have been wondering why the ‘Lemonade’ artist has once again been overlooked. Over the course of her career Queen Bey has picked up an impressive 22 Grammys, both as a solo artist and member of Destiny’s Child; however, she has never managed to bag the prestigious ‘Album of the Year’ prize.
Prior to this years ceremony many music fans considered Beyonce a shoe-in to take home a number of top prizes; however, by the end of the night Beyonce left with just two awards for ‘Best Urban Contemporary Album’ and ‘Best Music Video’.
Most artists would arguably be pleased to leave with either prize, yet as Beyonce is something of a generational icon, her fans are never happy with lesser accolades.
Beyonce’s 2016 album ‘Lemonade’ has become one of her highest selling records to date; peaking at number one in over eighteen different countries, and achieving platinum status in three continents.
Bizarrely, no-one thinks Beyonce deserved the ‘Album of the Year’ award more than actual winner Adele. In a press conference following the ceremony, Adele explained: “I feel like it was [Beyoncé’s] time to win. My view is: what the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?”
Adding: “I am a Beyonce fan. I remember when I was 11 years old, I was with some girlfriends, and we were practicing a song to do at an assembly. I probably suggested the Spice Girls, and they said have you heard ‘No No No’? And I was like, ‘no, no, no.’ I remember how I felt hearing her voice. I fell in love immediately with her. The way I felt when I first heard ‘No No No’ was exactly the same as when I first heard ‘Lemonade’ last year… The other artists who mean that much to me are all dead.”
